PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
A Community Where Everyone Belongs and Thrives

|
At Marcellin College, building an inclusive, welcoming environment for our families is at the heart of our work. Our motto, Optima Quaere - Seek the Best, is a daily call to pursue personal excellence for every individual in all that we do. When our students feel accepted and celebrated, they gain the confidence to strive for that standard, both in the classroom and across their co-curricular pursuits. This week, that shared spirit was on clear display.

To ensure Marcellin College remains strong and vibrant for the future, our enrolment focus for 2027 centers on welcoming new Year 7 and 9 students. Sitting down with prospective families this week has been a highlight.
|
|
|
|
These parents are intentionally choosing a Catholic education, looking for a faith-based environment where gospel values guide daily life. They trust us to guide their young people academically while building strong moral character. From student leaders, musicians, and athletes to keen classroom learners, these incoming students bring great promise to our school.
|
Our school community also marked Tongan Language Week with wonderful energy. At assembly, our Tongan Brass Band delivered an outstanding performance, and during Mass, our students proudly represented their heritage in traditional attire, sharing their music and food. The week concluded on Friday during our Staff Only Day with a lavish morning tea hosted by our Tongan staff. It was a genuine reflection of Marcellin College as a place where every culture is honored.

Another moving moment at the assembly this week was the presentation of awards to our Āwhina Ako students. The warm response from the student body as their peers were acknowledged spoke volumes. The pride felt by our Āwhina Ako learners as they stepped up to receive their awards captured the core of our school - an environment where every single person is valued and encouraged to flourish.
|
Every day, I see clear evidence that this is a school where people care for one another in line with our Marist PIllar of Family Spirit. That is what truly defines Marcellin College - a home where everyone belongs, contributes, and seeks the best together.

Curriculum

Term 3 is traditionally a big focus period for the majority of our ākonga, and we’re rolling out several initiatives this term to help students and their families stay on top of learning:
|
- Library Homework Club: Drop-in support, quiet study space, and extra assistance available after school in the library every Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Library Homework Club.

Year 10 Information Evening: Join us to discover what’s ahead for subject choices, pathways, literacy and numeracy corequisites, as well as what NCEA will look like for this cohort: Wednesday 26th August, 6.30 pm, in the Champagnat Chapel.

Senior Study Tips (Yrs 11–13): Year 11–13 studnets will receive weekly emails every Monday, featuring evidence-based study techniques and revision strategies.

|

|
As winter illnesses circulate, we want to thank all of our students and families for working together to keep our community safe and healthy. We know that winter bugs can make attendance tricky, but resting at home when unwell is the best way to ensure a speedy recovery and protect others.
|
Healthy Habits & Household Tips
|
- Daily Wellness: Encourage plenty of sleep, balanced meals, hydration, and regular handwashing.
- Managing Sick Households: If someone at home is unwell, keep sick children at home to rest. Wipe down shared surfaces regularly, keep rooms ventilated, and encourage everyone to cough or sneeze into their elbows.
- Communication: If your child is sick, please notify the school by downloading SchoolBridge app on our website and entering your child's attendance there.
School & Online Health Support

- On-Site Care: We offer prescribing nurse appointments, an on-site GP clinic on Thursdays, and throat swabbing as needed.
- Free Online GP Care (Under 14s): Families can access free 24/7 video or phone appointments nationwide. Clinicians can prescribe medications and send them directly to your nearest pharmacy.

School Attendance Dues - Financial Assistance
|
|
|
Financial assistance is available to assist families who may need financial support with the payment of Attendance Dues for preference students attending both primary and secondary Catholic schools in Auckland Diocese.
|
Families facing financial difficulties can contact their school office, their Parish Priest, or Auckland Common Fund Ltd at the Catholic Diocese of Auckland on 09-360-3040 for further information.
