PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Safety at the School Gate
|
|
|
|
|
This week, I must address an urgent safety issue at our school gates at the end of the school day at 3.15pm. We are seeing cars parking across footpaths and grass berms on Mt Albert Road after school. This creates a severe hazard; this week alone, we had a traffic accident and numerous near-misses.
|
I want to extend a sincere thank you to the many parents who already follow the rules and keep our students safe. We truly appreciate your support.
|
While staff are at the gates each afternoon helping to manage student flow, we need everyone's cooperation. As a Marist community, we look to the Catholic concept of the Common Good - ensuring our choices protect the well-being of everyone. We need all students, including those from neighbouring schools, to walk, meet parents and catch buses safely without being forced into traffic.

Parents have the following options for pickups:
|
- Park on Mt Albert Road (not on the footpath or berm): The road is not a clearway until 4:00 pm, so you are welcome to park legally on the roadside.
- Delayed Arrival & School Grounds: You can enter the school from 3:30 pm to pick up your child. Please drive in Gate 2 and exit out Gate 1 or 3, just as you do in the morning.
- Off-Site Meeting & Side Streets: You can arrange for your child to use the pedestrian lights to cross safely, walk a short distance, and meet you on a quieter side street, such as Peet Ave or Buckley Road.
Please note these strict traffic protocols:

- Gate 1: Exit only at all times
- Gate 2 (Main Gate): Closed to vehicles from 8.40 to 3:30 pm.
- Gate 3: Exit only - before and after school. No parent parking or pickup permitted before 3:30 pm (except for pre-arranged Āwhina Ako student pickups).

Pompallier Shield
The Annual Pompallier Shield competition is always a highlight in the life of our Catholic Schools. This is a day where the 17 Catholic Schools across our Auckland Diocese come together to participate in a Speech, Scripture and Waiata competition.
|
A tough competition, ākonga in all schools prepare for weeks to compete against each other. Joining in fellowship and building relationships with other schools is also a key part of this competition and the many connections ākonga make with other students usually moves well beyond their high school years.
|
This year’s competition was held at Sancta Maria College on Friday 1st May 2026.
|

We are all very proud of how well these ākonga represented Marcellin College. A massive congratulations to Semu Asatau Fa’alavalu who came second in the Senior Scripture competition. Marcellin College placed 8th out of all the Catholic schools in the Auckland Diocese and we are all so proud of their dedication and effort in being part of this prestigious Catholic School competition.

Digital Learning at Marcellin College: BYOD
Marcellin College is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school. This means all Years 7–13 ākonga need a digital device that is supplied by whānau to support their learning at school.
|
A reliable digital device is an essential learning requirement every day. Without it, ākonga cannot fully participate in modern learning. Their device is the primary tool they will use to access daily lessons, digital resources, collaborate with kaiako, and complete vital class tasks and NCEA assessments.
|
Key Information for Whānau:
- Ready to Learn: Please help your tamariki/child build the daily habit of charging their device overnight so it lasts the full school day.
- Recommended Devices: For the best learning experience across all subjects, we recommend a Chromebook or a Laptop (Windows/Mac) and a battery that lasts the whole day.
- Where to Buy: We partner with PB Tech to offer special school pricing. You can view recommended options on their website by using our school code: MARCBYOD.

School uniform
We would like to remind all students and whānau of our school’s uniform expectations. Wearing the correct uniform is part of showing pride in being a Marcellin student and helps build a strong sense of unity and respect across our school community.
|
For Term 2, students are expected to:
|
- Wear the correct full school uniform each day.
- Only wear Marcellin College jackets and jumpers for warmth - no non-uniform hoodies, jackets, or sweatshirts are permitted.
- Ensure uniforms are clean, tidy, and worn appropriately at all times.

Big Sing
On Wednesday 17th June, our School Choir the Marcellin College Voices performed at the Big Sing 2026. They sang beautifully and got the only standing ovation of the afternoon session as well as the evening Gala Concert.Semu & Felicity sang very well in their duet, as well as Semu doing a wonderful job conducting the choir. They came away with a Runner-Up Award in the Category 3 Section of the Big Sing which was a great achievement with their fantastic performance of 'Hopelessly Devoted to you'.
