PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
In Loving Memory of Br Peter Thompson fms
|
|
|
|
|
In this week’s newsletter, we pause as a faith community to celebrate the life of a truly faithful servant, Br Peter Thompson, who passed away peacefully on June 30th.
|
|
Br Peter dedicated a remarkable 23 years of his life to Marcellin College across three separate stints (1993–2010, 2013–2016, and 2018). Serving over time as Head of Mathematics and Director of Religious Studies, he was woven into the very fabric of our history. He was deeply passionate about mathematics and possessed a rare gift for helping young people reach their full potential, always encouraging them forward with patience and a listening ear.

|
Beyond the classroom, Br Peter embodied the Marist spirit through his humility and love of ordinary, practical work. He was never one to sit idle; if a maintenance task arose on the school grounds, it drew his full diligence until it was complete.
|
We give profound thanks for his 23 years of loyal service and hold Br Peter, his family, and the Marist Brothers community closely in our prayers. May he rest in eternal peace.
|
- Funeral Arrangements: The Requiem Mass for Brother Peter will be celebrated tomorrow, Saturday 4th July, at 10:30 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Onehunga.
- Note for Students: Any Marcellin College students attending are requested to wear their full and correct school uniform.
As we reach the end of the term, thank you to the entire Marcellin community for the warm welcome I have received during my first seven weeks at the College. It is a privilege getting to know our students, staff and families.

As this long term comes to a close, all our ākonga deserve a wonderful upcoming holiday. This break is an opportunity to recharge, spend time with loved ones, and relax.
|
For our Seniors: While rest is essential, make sure you dedicate some structured time to revision and preparation for Term Three assessments so you can hit the ground running next term. Check your Google Classrooms for suggestions from your kaiako.
|
For our Juniors: Keep your minds active! Pick up a great book and spend some time reading for pleasure over the break.
|
The holidays are also a great time to check you have all the stationery required for the remainder of the year, including your own device and charger. As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, I would like to sincerely thank all our families for your ongoing support and partnership with Marcellin College. Your encouragement, communication, and commitment to your child's education play a vital role in the success of our school community. Together, we continue to create an environment where our ākonga can learn, grow, and thrive.

We wish all our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break. For our senior students, we are especially looking forward to celebrating with you at the School Ball in the middle weekend of the holidays - an event that promises to be a memorable occasion. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for another great term of learning and growth.
