In the days before apartment living, when people lived on a quarter acre section, there was always a lawn to be mowed-weekly!
|
The tasks to be done before the mowing were to remove all obstacles, the bikes, the footballs, the wheelbarrow etc!.
|
No obstacles meant a clean sweep of mowing.
|
Hence the catch phrase - Lawn Mowing Parenting
|
Lawn mowing Parenting is about removing all life obstacles from their children’s path, supposedly so they can have a clean sweep of the future.!
|
Lawn mowing Parenting puts friendship with their children over the hard conversations that every parent must have with their children.
|
|
We know life is about many things.
|
We also know that life is not perfect.
|
Overcoming obstacles is one of those many, yet necessary, things everyone has to undertake.
|
Actual Parenting involves dispensing wisdom from years of experience and from the collective wisdom from other parents.
|
Actual parenting is full of obstacles and hard work.
|
By adopting a lawn mowing mentality as a parent, our children risk growing up lacking initiative, being dependent and missing out on many life’s opportunities.
|
|
Our teen age children are capable of much more than we think.
|
They are capable of finding many solutions to life’s issues - by themselves.
|
They need the courage which structures give and the encouragement that structures expect.
|

Curriculum
Term Two Reports and Progress Meeting.
|
All students will receive an Academic Achievement Report, with comments and an indication of current academic progress, in Week 3 of this term. This will be followed by two progress meeting afternoons, on Wednesday 6th May and Thursday 7th May from 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm. These hui are an important opportunity for parents to speak with teachers and discuss how best to support academic achievement.
