PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Family Spirit in Action
|
|
|
|
|
In this week’s newsletter, I want to reflect on our theme for the year: the Marist pillar of Family Spirit. At Marcellin College, this means supporting one another across all year levels - not just socially, but in our shared commitment to academic success.
|
A wonderful example of this is our Navigators Programme, where Year 13 students mentor our Year 7 and 8 students, helping our youngest members of the family find their place and build confidence. We also saw this collective support beautifully demonstrated at our NCEA Music Evening, where senior and junior musicians performed courageously together, backed by a room full of peers, teachers, and families. Marcellin students are incredibly talented, and it is this safe, supportive family environment that gives them the confidence to excel.

True family spirit, however, also requires shared accountability. Just as our seniors mentor the juniors, we rely on our strong partnership with you at home to drive academic excellence. Please continue to support your sons and daughters by ensuring they meet assignment deadlines, stay focused in class, and arrive fully prepared for all assessments.
|
We need to continue to work as one family - home and school aligned - to inspire our young people to reach their highest potential, lift one another up, and truly seek the best in everything they do.
|

A friendly reminder that enrolments for 2027 close on Friday, 24th July. Please help us spread the word to the wider community and any prospective families who wish to join the Marcellin family next year.

Curriculum

As of the middle of this term, all senior ākonga should have at least 25 credits at the NCEA Level they are completing. 80% of Year 11 and 12 ākonga, and 90% of Year 13 ākonga, have achieved this. Ākonga should be having regular kōrero with their kaiako kaitiaki and/or year-level kaiārahi to discuss their academic achievement. All ākonga should not only know how many credits they currently have, but also whether they are on track to gain their NCEA Level Endorsed with Merit (50+ credits at Merit and/or Excellence level) or Endorsed with Excellence (50+ credits at Excellence level). Next Rāmere/Friday, whānau of all Year 11, 12, and 13 ākonga will receive an NCEA Summary Report via email. This report will show current academic achievement, as well as remaining opportunities for achievement in both internal and external assessment.

All junior ākonga are currently finishing their current tasters (Year 7, 8, and 9 ākonga), or options (Year 10 ākonga). From the beginning of next week, all junior ākonga will begin new tasters and options.
|
The end of the term is an exciting time of transition and reflection across all year levels. We wish our junior ākonga all the best as they dive into their new subjects, and we encourage our senior ākonga to ensure they are on track to achieve their personal best.

As we head into the last week of the term, I want to remind everyone of our Marcellin College School Code of Conduct. This code is designed to foster a respectful, positive, and inclusive learning environment for all. I encourage students and parents alike to review this code regularly, and to ensure that our values of respect, responsibility, and kindness are upheld in every interaction.
