PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
The Value of Hard Work
|
|
|
|
|
Sitting at the Auckland Philharmonia performance last night, I reflected on the thousands of hours of unseen practice the musicians put in to attain that level of skill. Excellence never happens by accident.
|
It is a perfect picture of our Marist pillar: Love of Work. Our founder, St Marcellin Champagnat, was a man of action who rolled up his sleeves to build the first Marist school himself. He taught us that effort, grit, and persistence build character.
|
That same value applies directly to our students today. Whether it is learning an instrument, training for a sport, or pushing through academic study, real reward requires dedication.
|
As winter sets in, that commitment is tested. It means getting out of bed for early morning sports practices when it is freezing outside, or staying focused in class when the work gets tough. True love of work is about keeping at it precisely when you want to quit.
|
There is a deep satisfaction that comes from knowing you have put in your very best effort. The skill you gain, the win on the field, and the grade you earn become the ultimate reward because you earned them.
|
Congratulations to our young men and women who performed in the piano recital at the Pah Homestead last night.

This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that God works through small, quiet beginnings. We don’t need to perform massive deeds to build the Kingdom of God; rather, it is the small daily acts of kindness, the quiet moments of prayer, and the steady commitment to our community that grow into something life-giving. Like the mustard seed, the faith we plant today in our school and homes provides shelter and strength for others tomorrow.

Curriculum

|
As we near the end of the first half of the year, it is a good time for all ākonga to reflect on their learning goals and ask themselves: What does my personal academic excellence look like? Excellence isn't about being perfect or comparing yourself to others - it is about pushing your own boundaries, staying curious, and putting in the consistent effort to achieve your absolute best.
|
For our Year 7, 8, 9 & 10 ākonga, now is the time to focus on the habits that create long-term success. Personal academic excellence at this level is all about consistency and mindset. Focus on developing good routines - completing unfinished classwork and reading 30 minutes every day.
|
For our Year 11, 12 & 13 ākonga, personal academic excellence is tied directly to qualification goals. All students should be working to achieve Merit and Excellence for every assessment. University Entrance (UE) is the goal for all Yr 13 ākonga - 14+ credits in three approved subjects, plus Numeracy, and Literacy. .
|
No matter your year level, personal academic excellence is about making today’s effort better than yesterday's. Rapu i te Pai - Seek the Best!

Attendance
To increase regular attendance rates, the Government has set a target: by 2030, 80% of students are present for more than 90% of the term.

Our attendance this term is currently as follows:

Jazz Band Tour - Three Kings School
Some of our Jazz Band students visited Three Kings School today to give a 30 minute performance to the whole school. The group received a fantastic response and feedback was very positive with requests of further performances and connection in the future.
