Health & Physical Education

Health and Physical Education from Year 9 to 13 focuses on the well-being of students, others, and society through learning in health-related and movement contexts. Students are encouraged to embrace new challenges, reflect on their own well-being, and take responsibility for enhancing the well-being of others. Learning takes place through both practical and theoretical experiences, including opportunities beyond the classroom.

The College delivers three lessons per week for Years 9 and 10. Junior Physical Education includes a range of units that develop physical and interpersonal skills. Health units focus on Hauora, sexuality, nutrition, and health issues in society.

All Year 11 students take Core Physical Education for two periods per week and complete an achievement standard through participation in a range of physical activities.

The Sexuality Education programme is designed by trained staff and aligned with Catholic teaching. It supports students in understanding values, relationships, and personal development.

Topics include:

  • Values of society and Jesus
  • Sexuality in the media
  • Changes and development
  • Human dignity
  • Choices and consequences
  • Love and relationships
  • Intimacy and fertility awareness

The Attitude Programme provides presentations and workshops on pubertal change, covering physical and emotional development, as well as positive well-being messages. This learning forms part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.

The programme is delivered in an engaging, age-appropriate way and aligns with the special Catholic character of the College. Parents are informed and may choose for their child to attend alternative classes if preferred.
