Enrolment Process

Why Marcellin College?

  • The College has a warm, friendly, welcoming environment with a genuine sense of family spirit being essential to who we are. International Students, like all other visitors are made to feel welcome and at home. There are approximately 650 students from Years 7 through to Year 13 and these numbers make it possible for each young person to be given extensive individual support and care.
  • The College has a great range of engaging programmes of study, co-curricular opportunities and activities which provide a rich learning experience for International Students.
  • The College offers NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3 English programmes which include English Language Standards which provide pathways for students to gain entry into New Zealand Universities and Tertiary Institutions.
  • Students are helped to adjust to life in New Zealand, and to prepare for further study in New Zealand if they choose to continue to study here long term.
  • The care of our students is a priority and we have a culturally responsive pastoral care system in place for our students. The Tumuaki Tuatoru / Assistant Principal has responsibility for International Students and is available to see to the needs of the students while they are at school and to ensure that International Students experience a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • A caring atmosphere is offered, including care for students’ religious and spiritual needs.
  • Students form friendships with members of our school community and the buddy system ensures that there are many opportunities to interact with New Zealand students at the College. The buddies are carefully chosen, take their responsibilities seriously and provide wonderful, caring support for International Students.
  • Our students can choose from a wide range of co-curricular activities such as sports, youth and service groups as well as cultural and arts opportunities (for further information see our co-curricular page).
  • Organised excursions within Auckland are arranged so that international students experience a range of aspects of New Zealand life, history and culture.

International School Fees

  • Tuition Fee: NZ $18,000 per year / NZ $4,500 per term
  • Administration Fee: NZ $880 per year / NZ $220 per term

The minimum length of enrolment is two weeks.

The College can arrange homestay accommodation in accordance with the Code of Practice. Weekly accommodation may vary depending on the homestay (based on 46 weeks per school year).

  • Homestay Fee (under 18 years): NZ $430 per week
  • Special dietary requirements: NZ $30
  • Homestay Change Fee: NZ $50
  • Homestay Placement Fee: NZ $350
  • Attendance Dues (Years 9–13): NZ $1,124 per year / NZ $281 per term
  • Ministry Levy: NZ $11 per week (charged per trimester)
  • Farewell Party: NZ $25

International school uniforms are acceptable for short-term study. Long-term students are required to wear the Marcellin College uniform.

Students should have their own personal spending money. Opening a bank account is recommended for managing incidental expenses.

Devices are available for short-term students to borrow. Long-term students are expected to bring their own device. A Chromebook or laptop is recommended.

The Marcellin College Board of Trustees guarantees a refund of international student fees where the following conditions are met:

  1. A minimum of two weeks’ notice of intention to withdraw must be provided. Students who withdraw before their course completion date may be eligible for a refund.
  2. Refund applications must be made in writing to the Principal, including reasons for withdrawal.
  3. If the application is made before the course starts, fees will be refunded in full less a NZ $400 administration fee.
  4. If Marcellin College ceases to be a signatory provider for international students.
  5. If the application is made after the course starts but before the second half of the course, the refund will be calculated as unexpired fees less:
    • The proportion of the NZCEO Levy payable
    • A NZ $400 administration fee
    • Any costs already incurred

Unexpired fees are calculated as one-twelfth of the annual fees multiplied by the number of full months remaining in the academic year (ending 30 November).

  1. If the application is made after the second half of the course, no refund will be given except in exceptional circumstances.
  2. No refund will be made if a student is expelled by the Board of Trustees.
  3. Refunds will be made to the original fee payer (e.g. parents or guardians).
  4. No refund will be made if a student transfers to another school during the year, except in exceptional circumstances.
  5. No refund will be made if a student gains permanent residency after enrolment.
  6. All international student fees are held in a protected, separately coded account.

The Enrolment Process

Initial Steps:

  1. Complete the enrolment application form (see link below). You must also provide:
    • A copy of your latest school report (with English translation)
    • A copy of your passport and any current New Zealand visas
    • A letter of recommendation from your school principal or teacher
    • A recent photograph
  2. Return completed forms to the International Officer:

  3. You will receive confirmation that your application has been received and is being considered.
  4. If successful, you will receive a provisional Offer of Place and an invoice for school fees.
  5. Once fees are paid in full, a Confirmed Offer of Place will be issued along with a receipt and study duration details.
  6. Apply for a student visa through Immigration New Zealand: immigration.govt.nz
  7. Before starting, students must provide:
    • A valid student visa
    • Proof of international student health insurance
