PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Courage: The good seeds will grow
Kia ora koutou katoa,
A message about Courage,
Courage is a virtue which is said to be essential for living.
The ancients knew that without Courage no other virtues could happen. It was the essential link to life.
But Courage is less about the ANZAC model of charging up the hill in the face of enemy fire! Or rescuing people from burning buildings. These events are indeed courageous. But also rare.
Courage is more the day to day life events which every parent and student must face.
The daily grind of being on time at school, the chore for many of having the college uniform ready, the homework done, the focus and discipline of 5 learning periods per day, the housekeeping events of living completed..etc.
Courage is about getting out of bed each morning.
Courage is about daily managing the tyranny of the urgent!
So when we speak about “the good seeds will grow'. It is about hoping that our son/daughter will achieve with excellence at school, will behave him/ her self, will grow into a man or woman of character, confidence, a heart of compassion and a view of life that trusts in a living God.
Courage has been described as “ gardening in the dark” for many parents!

Time: Depart Marcellin at 8am and return 3pm by van.
Venue: Due Drop Events Centre, Manukau
TUESDAY 10 MAR:

    • Special Olympics Athletics (Āwhina Ako)
    • 6.30pm Year 9 & 10 whānau meeting
      Venue: College Gym
      It is IMPORTANT that at least one parent attend. A roll will be taken.
    WEDNESDAY 11 MAR:

      • Open Day (Tours)
        Time: Session 1 - 10.30am
        Session 2 - 1.30pm
      Venue: College Chapel
      • Year 13 Dance & Year 11 Drama Museum Trip
      Time: Depart Marcellin at 9am and return 12.30pm.
      THURSDAY 12 MAR:
      • 6pm NCEA Year 11-13 Music Night (students expected to attend) parents are invited.
      Venue: College Music Room

        FRIDAY 13 MAR:
        • 8.40am Kaitiaki timetabled classes follow.

        CONGRATULATIONS

        Year 11 Art Trip to Māngere Mountain Education Centre
        The Year 11 Art Class and 4 Āwhina Ako students went to the Māngere Mountain Education Centre. The focus of the trip was to learn about traditional Māori kai and medicinal plants. We partook in 2 workshops that included practical demonstrations and information on kūmara, kawakawa, flax and the gourd.

        Royal NZ Navy Band Quarters
        On Tuesday 3 March our School Jazz Band enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Royal NZ Navy Band Quarters on Devonport where they spent the day rehearsing, workshopping, performing, marching and having a lot of great food put on by the Royal NZ Navy Band.

        Auckland Championships Athletics
        Congratulations to Jireh Ta'ufo'ou and Jose Padilla for qualifying for Auckland Championships Athletics competition. They have qualified in the 100m and 200m respectively.

        NOTICES & OPERATIONS
        PARKING
        • Registration for drivers: All student drivers are required to have registered (with car details) with the Deputy Principal, Mr.Darragh.
        UNIFORM and GROOMING:
        Marcellin College has a college uniform which is expected to be worn with pride by every student all times. (From Home , At College, From College until they return home).
        Thank you for your family support here.
        • Ties for both Male and Female Year 11, 12 and 13 students are expected to be done up to the highest button. White t-shirts are NOT showing under Junior shirts.
        • Only regulation uniform items are permitted (from Warehouse Royal Oak). The blue vest and jersey is NOT part of Marcellin uniform.
        Marcellin College students have dignity and grooming standards to uphold.
