“Go back home…in a different way “
|
|
Occasionally words from scripture spring out.
|
The 3 wise kings who came from the east to visit the new born Christ were told to ‘Go back home but in a different way !’
|
|
Not to go forward to home.
|
Go back to where home can be found.
|
|
We live in a world where the old is being challenged on every level.
|
|
Internationally, locally, politically - on every social level.
|
|
In education, thankfully, much of the present system is being reviewed.
|
Too much waffle. Not enough substance is the refrain.
|
Hence the mood in NZ to go back to the past to rediscover some of the elements that made up a good education. [This is not an exhaustive list.]
|
- The basics of Reading and Maths done well.
- The use of repetition in learning.
- The use of simplified reporting as percentages.
- The restriction of curriculum choice, to do some subjects well.
- A questioning of the substance of digital learning.
- The emphasis on good character (work effort) to lift achievement.
- The routine use of homework everyday.
- The essentials: turn up everyday with right attitude correct equipment..etc
Change in Education (like Death and Taxes) is here to stay.

Let’s hope educational change reviews the past as a platform for moving ahead.
|
Let’s hope that educational change is centred on structured learning, good practice, intentional teaching, clear goals for teachers and students, clear data, externality of results and achievable aspiration levels.
|
Hmmmm …it is a lot but worth thinking about?

Reporting Absences
|
SchoolBridge is the central sign in point for our school providing easy access for Students, Parents/Caregivers, and Staff.
|

Curriculum
|
Term Two Reports and Progress Meeting.
|
All students will receive an Academic Achievement Report, with comments and an indication of current academic progress on Monday 4/05/26 in Week 3 of Term Two.
|
This will be followed by two progress meeting afternoons, on Wednesday 6th May and Thursday 7th May from 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm.
|
These meetings are an important opportunity for parents to speak with teachers and discuss how best to support academic achievement. Booking information for these meetings will be sent in Term Two.
|
Additional information will also be shared with parents of Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 student early Term Two to explain how to interpret the new reporting that the government has mandated.
|

- When dropping off students of in the morning please move to the end of the lane.
