Message from the Board
|
|
|
On behalf of the Marcellin College Board, I am writing to share some key updates as we look forward to the new year.
|
First, we want to give a huge thank you to Alisha Hunt who has been our Tumuaki Whakakapi/Acting Principal for the past two and half terms, and we are incredibly grateful for her leadership, commitment, and hard work during this time. We appreciate everything she has done for our ākonga/students and kaimahi/staff. We would also like to acknowledge all our amazing kaimahi for their service over the past year which has not gone unnoticed.

As we go to market for the future Tumuaki/Principal of Marcellin College, the Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kieran Fouhy as our Tumuaki Whakakapi/Acting Principal for Term 1, 2026. Kieran is a respected leader in the catholic education sector, and brings a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience to the role. The Board has full confidence in his ability to guide our Kura during this period. You will find a message and more details about Kieran in the next section of this newsletter.

Finally, given the proposed changes within the Education and Training Amendment Bill (No 2) which included the removal of the requirement for school boards to “give effect to Te Teriti o Waitangi, we want to confirm that Marcellin College remains absolutely committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. As we shared in our letter to whānau/families, upholding Te Tiriti is essential to our Catholic special character and our mission to ensure success for all our ākonga/students. We will continue to build on this commitment in the coming years.

Brief Bio of Kieran Fouhy
|
|
|
|
Mr Fouhy was delighted and honoured to be offered the position of Acting Principal to Marcellin College from January 2026.
|
He has spent a lifetime in Secondary Education mostly in senior leadership positions. He has been Headmaster of St Peter’s College, St Paul’s College and Sacred Heart College for varying lengths of time. A total of 33+ years as Headmaster.
His teaching subjects were Chemistry, Science and Religious studies.
|
His educational philosophy was formed by his 12 years in the Marist Brothers religious Order.
|
|
|
|
This Marist Tradition emphasised:
|
- The Enrolment of the family to the school.
- The primacy of structured and orderly classrooms
- The achievement of excellence in learning
- The education of the whole person within a wholesome community
- The enduring ethos of the Catholic world view supported by the elements of a Marist Spirituality
|
Mr Fouhy looks forward to being at Marcellin College, renewing his connection with the College and being of service to the great people who make up the community of the College.
|
He is married to Dianna with their 6 daughters and 7 grandchildren.
|
|
His interests include walking long distance Caminos and gardening.
|
|

|
|
Tēnā koutou and Advent greetings to you all. This is our final newsletter for the year. Thank you to our Marcellin community - our committed Board members, our dedicated kaimahi/staff, the Marist brothers for their example and continued presence, our ākonga and their whānau, and all who have supported us and our kura in so many ways this year.
|
|
This year, our students truly embraced the Marist Pillar of Ki te Huarahi o Maria / In the Way of Mary. We are incredibly proud of our Years 7-10 ākonga who recently completed a dedicated Day of Service. The positive
|
|
|
|
feedback we received from our community - St Therese, The Friary, and St Joseph’s- clearly shows that our ākonga lived out this pillar through their actions. Their service demonstrated compassion, humility, and a deep commitment to others. We will end this year together, with our Advent Liturgy and Middle School Prize Giving, celebrating our Years 7 to 10 ākonga academic excellence and preparing ourselves for the season of Advent, which has just begun. The final Years 7 to 10 academic reports will be emailed to all whānau this week. Please read through these with your tamariki to develop goals for 2026 that will help them ‘Seek the Best’!
|
A letter will be emailed to all whānau enrolled at Marcellin College 2026 (both new and current) in January/Kohitātea with the key dates and times for the first few weeks of Term Tahi/One to ensure everyone is ready to learn for the new year. Please remember to update the Student Services team (office@marcellin.school.nz) if your contact details have changed.

Special Character
|
|
|
Our first ever full middle-school Service Rā was amazing. Our Year 7 & 8s went to the Friary, Our Year 9s to St Therese School and our Year 10s to St Joseph's Primary school. All kaiako and ākonga got stuck in, cleaning resource rooms and other spaces, gardening, painting, vanishing and being of service to those in our community. They worked so hard, we completed everything we were asked to do well before the end of the day!

|
Many thanks to all for their participation and commitment to out Catholic Social Teaching Principles- Stewardship, the Common Good and Human Dignity.
|

ATTENDANCE DUES

2026 School Office Hours
|
|

The school office will be closed for the year on Friday, 5th December 2025. For all enquiries, please email office@marcellin.school.nz.

The office will reopen for limited hours (9am – 2pm) from Monday, 19th January to Friday, 30th January. Normal hours (8am – 4pm) will resume on Monday, 2nd February 2026.

Final Year 7-10 Reports
|
Whānau of all Year 7 - 10 ākonga will receive a final academic report for 2025 via email on Rāpare/Thursday 4th Hakihea/December. This will be a summary of all learning and achievements for the year.
|
|
|
|
Year 7-10 Prize Giving
|
Prize Giving is at 10:30 am on Rāmere/Friday, 5th Hakihea/December. Whānau of ākonga who are receiving awards will be notified by the end of next week.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
NCEA Progression Requirements (Level One - Level Two & Level Two - Level Three)
To support successful academic progression, ākonga must meet minimum NCEA credit requirements at Marcellin College, with structured support and planning provided for those who do not meet these thresholds.
|
|
Gateway credits are excluded as they do not count toward specific subject achievement.
|
|

Future Me 2025
|
On Tuesday 18th November a group of Year 10 ākonga got to experience a bit of what The University of Auckland / Waipapa Taumata Rau has to offer. The day started in a large lecture hall (pictured) and then ākonga were able to move around the campus for various hands-on workshops with university staff and student volunteers. Everyone enjoyed the day and the chance to get a glimpse of what university life is like.
