Message from the Tumuaki Whakakapi / Acting Principal - Ms. Alisha Hunt

|
|
With only two weeks remaining, the end of the school year is fast approaching. We are preparing for a busy and rewarding final fortnight, including important examinations and exciting end-of-term activities.
|
Next week is dedicated to final assessments for our ākonga:
|
- Senior Ākonga: Sit their final NCEA exams.
- Year 9 and 10 Ākonga: Sit their end-of-year exams in their core subjects.
We wish all our ākonga the very best as they prepare and complete these final assessments.
|
|
Our final week of term is dedicated to the Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC)
|
|
|
|
programme for all Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 ākonga. This week features a mix of community service, field trips, and on-site activities. We remind all ākonga that behavioural and academic expectations remain high until the very last day of term:
|
- Community Service Day (Rāhina/Monday, 1st Hakihea/December): The week begins with a whole-school service day, where ākonga will be completing acts of service within our community.
- Big Days Out (Rātū/Tuesday, 2nd and Rāapa/Wednesday, 3rd Hakihea/December): Students will enjoy two field trips: one at the Auckland Zoo and the other at Jellicoe Pools.
- Big Day In (Rāpare/Thursday, 4th Hakihea/December): All ākonga will return on-site for a day of diverse, engaging activities.
The term culminates with our Middle School Prize Giving on Rāmere/Friday, 5th Hakihea/December, where we will celebrate academic achievement and personal excellence before turning our full attention to the Advent season. Please remember that school finishes at midday on Rāmere/Friday, 5th Hakihea/December.

Marcellin Spirit Awards
At Marcellin College we use the name ‘Marcellin Spirit’ for Positive Behaviour for Learning. Marcellin Spirit teaches positive behaviour for learning by teaching expectations to all ākonga. We do this via specific Marcellin Spirit lessons, as well as by rewarding expected behaviours. We link our expected behaviours to the Marist Pillars. Our free and frequent reward system is whānau points, which ākonga can track using the MyMahi platform.
Marcellin Spirit certificates are awarded to the ākonga with the most whānau points each week of the term. Congratulations to the following recipients:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: BIG DAY OUT & BIG DAY IN
|

BIG DAY OUT
As the end of the year is just around the corner, we are excited to plan our Big Day Out and In events. These are happening in the last week of Term 4, and boys and girls in Years 7-10 will be split and doing two different activities on two different days:
|
|
Rātū/Tuesday 2nd Hakihea /December
|
|
Year 7-10 girls will go to Auckland Zoo (Sustainability and adaptations activity)
|
Year 7-10 boys will go to Jellicoe pools (Swimming and water activities)
|
|
Rāapa/ Wednesday 3rd Hakihea/December
|
|
Year 7-10 girls will go to Jellicoe pools (Swimming and water activities)
|
Year 7-10 boys will go to Auckland Zoo (Sustainability and adaptations activity)
|
|
Zoo : Travelling by bus, leaving at 9.15 am and returning at 3 pm.
|
Pool: Walking to the venues from school, leaving at 9.00 am and returning at 3 pm.
|
|
Dress code: Non-uniform, sun hat and sturdy walking shoes. (For the pools, a towel and proper swimwear, including rash tops and shorts. NOTE: No t-shirts or singlets are allowed in the pool (Jellicoe pool rules).
|
Food and drink: Packed morning tea and lunch, water/drink.
|
Cost: The costs are subsidised by the school, however, we ask that each child pay $10.
|
The completed consent form and payment are due by Monday 1st Hakihea/ December.
|
BIG DAY IN (4th December)
We will celebrate by having team-building activities in school where students are to wear their PE uniform.
|
|
All events will be supervised by our school staff to ensure the health and safety of our ākonga. Ākonga will be reminded of the expectations required prior to the events, and the consequences if these expectations are not met.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Year 9 & 10 Exams
|
This year, all Year 9 & 10 ākonga will sit exams in their core subjects. These exams will take place at the end of the term, and will help ākonga prepare for the external assessments they will sit as part of NCEA:
|
|
|
|
|
Final Year 7-10 Reports
|
Whānau of all Year 7 - 10 ākonga will receive a final academic report for 2025 via email on Rāpare/Thursday 4th Hakihea/December. This will be a summary of all learning and achievements for the year.
|
|
|
|
Year 7-10 Prize Giving
|
Prize Giving is at 10:30 am on Rāmere/Friday, 5th Hakihea/December. Whānau of ākonga who are receiving awards will be notified by the end of next week.
|
|
|
|
NZQA Exams
|
External exams begin on 4 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November and run until 28 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Here is the exam timetable for this year:

NCEA Progression Requirements (Level One - Level Two & Level Two - Level Three)
To support successful academic progression, ākonga must meet minimum NCEA credit requirements at Marcellin College, with structured support and planning provided for those who do not meet these thresholds.
|
|
Gateway credits are excluded as they do not count toward specific subject achievement.
|
