Message from the Tumuaki Whakakapi / Acting Principal - Ms. Alisha Hunt
|
|
|
|
|
It was a pleasure to gather last Rāpare/Thursday to honour and celebrate the academic achievements of our Year 11, 12, and 13 ākonga. This year, we were very fortunate to have over $100,000 in scholarships awarded at Prize Giving. Congratulations to the following Year 13 ākonga:
|
|
Viliami Tu'ima for The Robert Ned Covich Scholarship - awarded to a first-year university ākonga who has made a real contribution to the Special Character life of our kura this year. Valued at $7,500.
|
Gracedarling Lino for The University of Otago Pacific Peoples' Entrance Scholarships - a celebration of academic excellence and cultural diversity, awarded to ākonga who have contributed positively to their communities. Valued at $16,000.
|
|
|
|
Eric Mapa for the Meredith Connell - Te Kuhunga Scholarship. This scholarship is inspired by Chief Justice Rt Hon Dame Helen Winkelmann and is for Year 13 ākonga from secondary schools in Tāmaki Makaura. The programme is focused on ākonga who have been identified within their kura as having the potential to become lawyers. Valued at $8,000.

Gracedarling Lino, Eric Mapa, and Uaealesi Timoteo for The University of Auckland Vaka Moana Scholarship. This scholarship recognises potential in Pacific ākonga who have strong engagement with their school, or the arts, or played an exceptional leadership role in sports or cultural contexts, as well as demonstrating academic ability. Over 500 ākonga applied for this scholarship, with only 64 being awarded nationally. Valued at $23,000.

We concluded our evening with the two awards that recognise the highest academic achievement at Marcellin College:

Julianne Sigua for Proxime Accessit to Dux. This is for the second-placed academic ākonga in Year 13.
|
Roanne Martin for the Dux. This is the most prestigious academic award of the evening, going to the Year 13 ākonga who has achieved at the highest level among their peers.
|
Our thoughts now turn to all Year 11, 12, and 13 ākonga as they sit their external exams. Rapu i te pai / Seek the Best!

Passing of Brother Michael Taylor
|
Brother Michael Taylor, of such long standing, has passed away peacefully on 2 November at the Elizabeth Knox Home.
|
|
If anyone has earned his place among the saints it is our Brother Michael.
|
|
May he and all the faithful departed, be at peace with our loving God. Amen.
|

Ākonga Success
|
|
|
Marcellin Spirit Awards
At Marcellin College we use the name ‘Marcellin Spirit’ for Positive Behaviour for Learning. Marcellin Spirit teaches positive behaviour for learning by teaching expectations to all ākonga. We do this via specific Marcellin Spirit lessons, as well as by rewarding expected behaviours. We link our expected behaviours to the Marist Pillars. Our free and frequent reward system is whānau points, which ākonga can track using the MyMahi platform.
Marcellin Spirit certificates are awarded to the ākonga with the most whānau points each week of the term. Congratulations to the following recipients:

Senior Prize Giving
On the evening of Rāpare/Thursday 30th Whiringa-ā-nuku/October, we held our Senior Prize Giving to celebrate the many successes of our senior ākonga. Whakamihi to all our award recipients!

A huge whakawhetai to our guest speaker, Fiana Tuli-Tahifote (Marcellin alumni 2009), who shared her successful journey with us.

This year, all Year 9 & 10 ākonga will sit exams in their core subjects. These exams will take place at the end of the term, and will help ākonga prepare for the external assessments they will sit as part of NCEA:

Taster and Options Selection
|
The Years 7-10 Course Information Booklet 2026 will be sent to all current Years 7-9 ākonga and their whānau on Rāhina/Monday 10th Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Years 7-9 ākonga have compulsory tasters. Current Year 9 ākonga will be able to select their Year 10 Options for 2026 from Rāhina/Monday 10th Whiringa-ā-rangi/November in the KAMAR Portal. These options will close Rāmere/Friday 14th Whiringa-ā-rangi/November.

NZQA Exams
|
External exams begin on 4 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November and run until 28 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Here is the exam timetable for this year:

NCEA Progression Requirements (Level One - Level Two & Level Two - Level Three)
To support successful academic progression, ākonga must meet minimum NCEA credit requirements at Marcellin College, with structured support and planning provided for those who do not meet these thresholds.
|
|
Gateway credits are excluded as they do not count toward specific subject achievement.
|
|
|
|

Sports Prize Giving 2025
Our annual Sports Prize Giving was a wonderful afternoon dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements, teamwork, and commitment of our Marcellin College athletes. The event highlighted not only the success of our teams and individual players but also the invaluable contributions of those who make sport at Marcellin possible, our passionate coaches, dedicated team managers, and the ever supportive parents and whānau who give so much of their time and encouragement throughout the year.
|
We were especially honoured to welcome Lolo Heimuli, renowned as a true Champion Maker, whose presence and words of wisdom inspired our students to continue striving for excellence both on and off the field. His visit was a privilege and a reminder of the values of perseverance, humility, and teamwork that underpin all sporting success.
|
The afternoon was a fitting celebration of the Marcellin sporting spirit. One of unity, dedication, and pride. Congratulations to all our award recipients and to everyone who has contributed to another remarkable year in Marcellin sport.

The Years 7-10 Performing Arts Show takes place on Rātū/Tuesday 25th & Rāapa/Wednesday 26th Whiringa-ā-rangi/November, featuring dance, drama and musical acts. Tickets are $5 each and are available from Student Services Rāhina/Monday 10th Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Come and witness the gifts and talents our amazing ākonga have been blessed with!
