PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“A REACH should EXCEED its GRASP”
|
|
|
|
|
A message about striving.
|
As a country we rightly worry about the number of students who fail to achieve at the highest levels of education.
|
On a national and International scale these numbers make for miserable reading.
|
Certainly on a personal level, it is worrying and miserable for those who fail the NCEA level 1, 2 3 or UE standard.
|
But we should worry LESS about those who have strived and missed out and worry MORE about those students who have NOT strived and yet officially ‘succeeded ‘.
|
The real educational tragedy for NZ is about those students who have had the standard lowered - so they can pass.
|
Lowering expectations is about cementing an attitude of mediocrity.
|
- Standing on the sidelines and being rewarded for participation is -mediocre
- Thinking an Achieved as a real standard is - mediocre
- Only doing learning work in the classroom 9.00 - 3.00pm and thinking thats ok is -mediocre
- Attending school without the correct equipment or a focused learning attitude is -worse than mediocre!
‘A reach exceeding its grasp’ - striving for excellence - is a habit we must inculcate into every student at Marcellin College.

Lifting the expected standard is but a first step.
|
This is a daily, weekly, yearly (ongoing) journey of being restless and dissatisfied until we succeed.
|
Maybe St Augustine who said : “My heart is restless until it rests in You“, knew something about reaching and striving ?.
|

Farewell to Tokaidai Sagami High School
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
On Thursday 19th February, we held a farewell lunch for our visiting international students from Tokaidai Sagami, marking the end of their stay since arriving on Tuesday 3rd February.
|
The highlight was Talen Delany’s (Year 13) farewell speech.
|
|
|
|
|
Our sincere thanks to Mrs. Stateira D’Souza (International Kaiārahi) and her Team, our Marcellin ākonga who looked after our Tokaidai students.
|
|
|

NOTICES & OPERATIONS

- Registration for drivers: All student drivers are required to have registered (with car details) with the Deputy Principal, Mr.Darragh.
|
Marcellin College has a college uniform which is expected to be worn with pride by every student all times. (From Home , At College, From College until they return home).
|
Thank you for your family support here.
|
- Ties for both Male and Female Year 11, 12 and 13 students are expected to be done up to the highest button. White t-shirts are NOT showing under Junior shirts.
- Only regulation uniform items are permitted (from Warehouse Royal Oak). The blue vest and jersey is NOT part of Marcellin uniform.
|
Marcellin College students have dignity and grooming standards to uphold.
