|
Last term, we held our 617 Day to gather your feedback for our next three-year strategic plan. The requirement for the new three-year strategic plan, originally planned to start in 2026, is now very likely to be moved to 2027. This means we will use the valuable feedback gathered this year to develop our 2026 Annual Plan, which will build on our current strategic direction, rather than creating a whole new three-year plan right now. Eight of these have been collected - check your voicemail to see if you are one of the final two winners.

Next week, we farewell our seniors as they prepare for their external exams.
|
|
|
|
As a full school community, we will celebrate together one final time at our Thanksgiving Mass, on Rāapa/Wednesday 29 Whiringa-ā-nuku/October. After a leavers’ assembly period five this day, our seniors will then be on study leave. Our final celebration will take place on Rāpare/Thursday evening, as we recognise academic achievement at our Senior Prize Giving. The following day (Rāmere/Friday 31 Whiringa-ā-nuku/October) is a Teacher Only Day, where we will be focusing on the recent curriculum changes, ready for implementation in 2026.

|
|
Financial assistance is available to assist families who may need financial support with the payment of Attendance Dues for preference students attending both primary and secondary Catholic schools in Auckland Diocese.
|
Families facing financial difficulties can contact their school office, their Parish Priest, or Auckland Common Fund Ltd at the Catholic Diocese of Auckland on 09-360-3040 for further information.

Special Character

Mary our blessed Mother is our constant intercessor. We continue to ask for her intercessions in the month of October by praying the Rosary together. Our classes have meditated on the mysteries of the Rosary and have prayed for peace in our world.
|
Last week, we had a few of our senior classes, walk around our local community to pick up rubbish and clean up our neighbourhood. Students walked around Monte Cecilia, Peet Avenue, Mount Albert Road, Pah Road and The Warehouse collecting rubbish. This is part of our Love of

|
|
Work initiative and our duty as Catholic's to look after our world by living out the Catholic Social Teaching principles of Stewardship and the Common Good. The experience was so amazing, we are thinking about making it a termly event!
|
Our Year 10 students also went to Saint John Vianney for their annual retreat. This was led by NET Ministries. The theme was 'Rise Up' with the message of; Jesus can change your life. They enjoyed their experience and engaged well.
|
This week, as a Year 11 cohort, we had our final lesson as a full cohort. Throughout the year, each class has led a liturgy in this lesson.
|
|
|
|
|
This week, we reflected on the theme Faith over Fear. As part of the liturgy, each student was asked to draw their hand. In the palm of their hand, they wrote their fears. in the fingers, they wrote down what encourages them to stay faithful when they are afraid. They then had to glue their hands onto a large cross. It was wonderful to see our Year 11 students reflect on this and to reach out in faith to Christ, just like Peter did when he reached out to Jesus, as he was sinking in the water.

Let’s come together and make a difference this Christmas! We’re teaming up with Young Vinnies to collect canned goods for families in need.

The winning senior kaitakai will enjoy a pizza lunch, and the winning junior kaitakai will score a snack and lolly basket!
|
|
So bring in your cans and hand them to your kaitakai teacher.

Marcellin Spirit Awards
At Marcellin College we use the name ‘Marcellin Spirit’ for Positive Behaviour for Learning. Marcellin Spirit teaches positive behaviour for learning by teaching expectations to all ākonga. We do this via specific Marcellin Spirit lessons, as well as by rewarding expected behaviours. We link our expected behaviours to the Marist Pillars. Our free and frequent reward system is whānau points, which ākonga can track using the MyMahi platform.
Marcellin Spirit certificates are awarded to the ākonga with the most whānau points each week of the term. Congratulations to the following recipients:

Australian Maths Competition 2025
In August this year, 53 ākonga from Years 7 to 13 took part in the Australian Maths Competition. It was wonderful to see them embrace the challenge, working hard to solve a range of tricky and thought-provoking questions.
|
With the competition results we received recently, seven students achieved a Credit Award, placing them among the top 55% of performers in their year group and region. Twenty-six students received a Proficiency Award, recognising those who met the established standard of excellence set by the AMC, and the remaining twenty students earned a Participation Award in acknowledgement of their effort and commitment.
|
Ka rawe to all our students for their enthusiasm and achievement — we look forward to seeing even more young mathematicians take part next year!

Digital Corequisite Results
|
Corequisite results have now been released for Reading, Writing and Numeracy corequisites. Ākonga can view these results either via their NZQA Login or KAMAR login. Any ākonga who did not achieve either Reading, Writing, or Numeracy will have the opportunity to sit these again in 2026.
|
|
|
|
Senior NCEA Summary Reports
|
There will be one final report emailed home to all Year 11, 12 & 13 whānau on Rāmere/Friday 24 Whiringa-ā-nuku/October, which will be an NCEA summary report. This will show all achievement for the year and practice exam results (used for NZQA - Derived Grades if needed). The report will also show whether ākonga have gained their NCEA level already and how many remaining credits there are available in the external assessment (exams).

Senior Prize Giving
|
This year, we will celebrate the academic success of our Year 11, 12, and 13 ākonga at Senior Prize Giving on Rāpare/Thursday 30 Whiringa-ā-nuku/October from 6.30 pm. Whānau of ākonga receiving awards have received an invite via email.

Year 9 & 10 Exams
|
This year, all Year 9 & 10 ākonga will sit exams in their core subjects. These exams will take place at the end of the term, and will help ākonga prepare for the external assessments they will sit as part of NCEA.
|
|
|
|
Taster Summary Report
|
Whānau of all Year 7, 8, & 9 ākonga will receive a Taster Summary Report via email on Rāhina/Monday 3 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November, to help ākonga choose their options (Year 10) for 2026. These taster and option selections open on Rāhina/Monday 3 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November, and close on Rāmere/Friday 14 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Option booklets will be emailed to all ākonga and whānau, with tasters/options forms to be completed on paper. Ākonga will receive their taster/option forms in class.

NZQA Exams
|
External exams begin on 4 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November and run until 28 Whiringa-ā-rangi/November. Here is the exam timetable for this year:

NCEA Progression Requirements (Level One - Level Two & Level Two - Level Three)
To support successful academic progression, ākonga must meet minimum NCEA credit requirements at Marcellin College, with structured support and planning provided for those who do not meet these thresholds.
|
|
Gateway credits are excluded as they do not count toward specific subject achievement.
|
|
|

Daydream Auckland
|
|
|
Over the school holidays, Kyle B. and Chanelle H. attended Daydream, an event run by teenagers across the world in over 100 cities. Daydream is a game jam where you produce a video game between 12 and 24 hours based on a theme. Kyle and Chanelle went to Daydream Auckland, where 7 teams created games over 12 hours. The theme for the jam was 'Sacrifices must be made'. Their group made a 2D platformer where you sacrifice health to shoot. Their game placed second among the attending groups and they won a one-year plan of 1Password (password manager) as well as some t-shirts.
