Message from the Tumuaki/Principal -
Ms. Maria Prescott
|
|
|
|
At our first full school assembly, our Head Girl Mary Jane Taito read a key message from the Gospel of Luke. This passage tells the story of Jesus calling His first disciples. After fishing all night without success, Simon Peter and his friends were exhausted, frustrated and ready to give up. But when Jesus told them to cast their nets again, they trusted Him—and caught so many fish their nets began to break!
|
Our ākonga learned two important lessons from this Gospel - First, when we trust in Jesus, even when things seem impossible, amazing things can happen. Second, God calls each of us to do something great, just like He called the disciples. The Marist Pillar for 2025 is "Ki te Huarahi o Maria / In the Way of Mary" and throughout the year we will provide learning experiences for our ākonga to apply this Pillar in their decision-making, actions and behaviours - trusting God completely, just as our Good Mother and Simon Peter did. Mary was courageous, faithful, and always ready to serve.

At Marcellin College, we follow the Marcellin Way, which challenges us to live by the Marist Pillars. Your tamariki / child(ren) have been learning about our code of conduct, The Marcellin Way in kaitiaki and in their classes. This supports the Pastoral Care Annual Goal of working together to set and maintain high expectations for attendance and behaviour as a Marcellin whānau.

Last week we farewelled Sarah Cunningham who has returned to her previous leadership role as Director of Teen Parenting Unit at James Cook High. Although her time with us was short, Sarah’s aroha / love and aroaro / presence will not be forgotten. We wish her all the very best in her new leadership role.
|
Ngā mihi kia koutou / thank you very much for coming together in Wairua o te Whānau / Family Spirit to pray and support our Marcellin whānau after the lockdown incident last week. If your tamariki has a concern, please encourage them to talk to you, a member of the Senior Leadership Team, or one of their kaiako.

As we start this year with faith, courage, and a spirit of service, may this be a year of GREATNESS, hope, growth, and blessing for us all as we Seek the Best / Rapu i te Pai! Like the disciples, let’s cast our nets out into the deep, ready to embrace the opportunities ahead.

New Staff
This year we welcomed 7 new staff members from the left to right; Mr Christian Malaitai (Head of Faculty - Technology), Mr John Dolan (Teacher in Charge Physics), Mrs Su Minh Ahn (Head of Faculty Mathematics) and Miss Danielle Huggins (Teacher of Health and Physical Education).

My name is Christian Malaitai and I am the newly appointed Kaiarataki Hangarau (Head of Faculty for Technology) specialising in Hangarau Matihiko (Digital Technology).
|
I have a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Computer Science and a Masters in Educational Leadership. I assist with various ministries at my parish and I am heavily involved with the Legion of Mary in Auckland.
|
|
To be able to integrate both learning and the Catholic faith in a Catholic school is a privilege and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Marcellin community.

|
Former pupil at Marcellin College, John Dolan has returned to teach Physics and Science. He previously taught at St Paul's College and St Peter's College.

John is married to Anna and has five children.

My name is Mrs. Ahn, and I’m originally from South Korea. I live in West Auckland with my husband, our two children, and our dog. I have been teaching over 10 years in a few different schools and am so pleased to work at Marcellin College this year.

I teach Mathematics and am the Head of Faculty for Maths. If you need help with anything maths-related, feel free to reach out to me!

I am excited to be a Health and Physical Education teacher. I grew up on Te Atatū Peninsula in West Auckland and later studied at the University of Otago, where I completed a conjoint degree. My Arts major was in Indigenous Development (aka Māori and Pacific Studies) and my Science major was in Physical Education, Activity and Health, with a minor in English. I recently completed my postgraduate teaching diploma with Ako Mātātupu: Teach First NZ. Outside of school, I attend Massey Presbyterian Church and am a leader at the youth group there.

Hello! I’m Muni Ratnam, and I’m excited to join Marcellin College this year as a Materials Technology teacher. With many years of teaching experience across different schools and settings, I bring a broad perspective and a passion for hands-on learning.

I look forward to both inspiring and learning alongside my students, fostering a positive and engaging environment where they can develop their creativity and problem-solving skills. As a parent of two children, I understand the importance of education in shaping a bright future. I strive to support my students in the same way, helping them achieve their goals and prepare for success.

My name is Roxathina Falepeau and I am the new Head of Faculty for English at Marcellin College. I teach junior and senior English and am currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language for Diverse Learners at the University of Auckland.
|
My interests are outreaching and discipleship, spoken word poetry, creative writing, powerlifting and gardening. I am in my 13th year of teaching and I thoroughly enjoy it. I look forward to contributing positively to Marcellin College and serving my Pasifika community.

|
The 2025 prefect leadership team had an incredible experience at Camp Adair in Hunua this January! Over two days, the team participated in a range of activities designed to build strong relationships, encourage personal growth, and develop their leadership skills. From team-building challenges to moments of spiritual reflection, the camp was a perfect blend of learning and fun outside the classroom. The prefects returned with enhanced leadership qualities and a stronger sense of community, ready to make a positive impact this year!

Mālō e lelei & Kia ora koutou, and welcome back to a new year at Marcellin College!
|
It is a blessing to step into another year as Director of Religious Studies, continuing our shared journey of faith, service, and learning. This year is particularly special as we embrace the Jubilee Year of Hope, a call for us to be people of faith who trust in God’s promises and bring His hope into the world. Hope is not just wishful thinking—it is a deep confidence in God's love, guiding us through every challenge and opportunity.
|
Our special character pillar focus for 2025 is Ki te Huarahi o Maria – In the Way of Mary. As ākonga of Marcellin College, we look to Mary as the ultimate model of faith, humility, and service. She teaches us what it means to say “yes” to God, to care for others with compassion, and to walk in hope even when the path is uncertain. This year, we are invited to reflect on how we can live out her example in our daily lives.
|
We have already begun introducing these themes to our school community through liturgies, class activities, and staff professional learning.
|

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance Dues are compulsory payments at all Catholic / Integrated Schools.
An urgent reminder that a condition of enrolment at any integrated school such as Marcellin College, is a legal requirement for whānau / parents to pay Attendance Dues. Marcellin College collects Attendance Dues on behalf of the Proprietor.
|
All whānau / parents and caregivers must commit to paying something (e.g. $20 per fortnight automatic payment) towards the cost of your tamariki / child(rens) education at Marcellin College, as stated in the Attendance Dues Agreement that whānau signed at the enrolment interview. Financial Assistance is available to assist whānau who may need financial support.
|
Whānau who are not making regular payments risk their tamariki being removed from the school roll as per the Attendance Dues Agreement. Furthermore, the proprietor will refer overdue accounts to a debt collection agency, which puts more pressure on whānau. To prevent this, it is imperative that regular communication with the Executive Officer, Tiffany Wood and the Tumuaki, Maria Prescott to develop a payment support plan.

Marcellin College Music students take on Broadway
During the holidays, 2 of our past students Joziah Atoa & Grace Collins and current year 13 student, Zion Seniwaitui participated in a 7 day intensive with 3 artists from Broadway New York here in Auckland.
|
They were part of a fantastic performance that was the highlight of a week filled with acting, singing, dancing classes and workshops. The Showcase Band also featured our recent student Joshua Emerson on guitar and year 9 student Noah on drums and percussion.
|
|
Zion Seniwaitui was chosen as one of 3 students that participated out of 48 from around NZ to attend a similar week in New York later this year where she will get to work with even more Broadway artists and have access to various opportunities offered through the program. This is a fantastic opportunity and achievement by one of our very own.
|

Marcellin’s Hospitality Programme Heats Up with a Newly Renovated Kitchen
Hospitality at Marcellin has launched into 2025 on a high note with the unveiling of a brand-new, fully renovated kitchen. In Technology, we often use the term "fit for purpose"—and this new learning space is exactly that.
|
The upgraded kitchen features five mobile workstations, allowing up to 20 students to actively engage in hands-on practical lessons. An additional workstation provides extra bench space, ensuring ample room during catering events. With brand-new ovens, and a dedicated demonstration area, this redesigned space creates an environment where students can fully immerse themselves in learning, refining their culinary skills in a setting tailor-made for their success.

This exciting upgrade marks a significant step forward in providing students with the environment and experience needed to thrive in the world of hospitality.

New Pastoral Procedures
After School Service
Pastoral Care at Marcellin College is aligned with Ngā Ākoranga Pāpori Katorika (Catholic Social Teaching), in particular, Te Mana o te Tangata (Human Dignity). With each ākonga being made in God’s image our pastoral care aims to respect and uphold the dignity of every ākonga in every encounter. Along with this, we are also a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) school, where relationships are at the centre of all interactions and a restorative (rather than punitive) approach is used for any conflict or behavioural issues.
|
We are introducing Afterschool Service at Marcellin College, beginning in Week 4. This initiative is a way for ākonga to restore and uphold the values of the Marist pillars and take responsibility for their actions.
|

When: Starting Week 5 – Every Friday
Time: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Where: Whakaaro/reflection room
|
Each week, if ākonga are placed on afterschool service, a member of the Pastoral team (kaiārahi, Senior leader) will be in contact about precise details.
|
|

KiVa information
At Marcellin College, we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every ākonga feels valued and respected. To strengthen this commitment, we are implementing the KiVa Anti-Bullying Programme—an evidence-based initiative designed to prevent bullying and empower ākonga to stand up for themselves and others.
|
What is KiVa?
KiVa is an internationally recognised programme that focuses on:
✅ Preventing bullying through education and awareness
✅ Equipping students with tools to respond to and report bullying
✅ Building a culture of kindness, respect, and responsibility
✅ Supporting students who have been affected by bullying
|
This programme aligns with our Catholic values and Marist pillars by encouraging students to treat others with dignity and respect.
|
How does KiVa work?
- Whole-School Approach: Year 7-10 ākonga will engage in KiVa lessons designed to promote positive relationships as part of their Health curriculum. Staff have completed a professional learning program with KiVa representatives.
- Immediate Intervention: A structured process will be in place to support any ākonga involved in bullying situations.
- Ākonga Leadership: Ākonga will be encouraged to take an active role in fostering a culture of care and inclusion through tuakana/teina relationships in their Whānau House and Kaitiaki activities.
|
Together, we can create a school environment where every ākonga feels safe, valued, and empowered to be their best selves.
|

All school uniform can be purchased from the Royal Oak Warehouse on Pah Road. A friendly reminder that all Year 10 students going into Year 11 this year will wear Senior Uniform please see the uniform photo below.

The Warehouse has two staff available to assist daily:

- 9am - 12pm and 2 - 4pm or
- Sunday - Tuesday a late night availability 2 - 9pm

Visitors to Marcellin College
|
All visitors to the school, including parents, caregivers, tradespeople, and external staff, must report to the school office to sign in. For more details, read the Visitors guidelines which is part of the school’s Health, Safety, and Welfare Policy.
|
Unauthorized visitors or those who refuse to leave when asked will be considered trespassing. In such cases, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) will be notified, and the Police may be called. If there is a safety risk to students or staff, lockdown procedures will be followed.
|
|
Getting to and from School Safely
|
Marcellin College appreciates the support of our school community in ensuring a safe environment for all road users around the school. We remind parents, caregivers, and whānau to follow road rules and school guidelines when driving and parking near the school. For more details, go to SchoolDocs Getting to and from School Safely

We encourage students to be responsible and road-safe when travelling to and from school. Safe travel practices include:
|
- Using footpaths and pedestrian crossings where available - especially the pedestrian crossings out front of the school on Mt Albert Road AND crossing Pah Road to get to the Warehouse.
- Being cautious around driveways
- Wearing a helmet and appropriate safety gear when using bikes
- Ensuring bikes and other transport are roadworthy
- Following all road rules
