Message from the Tumuaki/Principal -
Ms. Maria Prescott

|
|
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, we reflect on our Marist Pillar for 2024: Aroha ki te Mahi / Love of Work and how we as a learning community have been called to approach our mahi / work with dedication, perseverance and an enthusiastic spirit of service.
|
Throughout this term, we have seen Aroha ki te Mahi in action:

End of Year examinations: Our seniors have almost completed the NCEA external examinations, and our juniors have completed their end of Unit tests. Both have shown discipline, determination and diligence by attending their assessments and striving for personal excellence.
|

Aroha ki te Mahi / Love of Work Week: Our Year 7 ākonga have started this former tradition by spending the day with the Brothers at the St Francis Friary in a working bee. Next week, the other year levels will demonstrate this Pillar by being Tuakana mentors and leading activities for the younger Teina at St Therese Primary school.

Faculty Planning Days: Kaiako have been working collaboratively to evaluate the learning programmes this year, to ensure the learning programmes 2025 are responsive and aligned to our Strategic priorities of raising ākonga achievement.
|

|
2025 Annual Implementation Plan: Our leadership team are finalising next year’s plan, guided by our Marist Pillars and school vision, to strengthen teaching, learning, and faith development.
|
We look forward to celebrating the end of the year with the Marcellin Fun Week - Big Day In, and Big Days Out. A letter has been sent to whānau with more details. Please encourage your tamariki to attend school every day with the correct uniform and attitude for learning, and make the most of the learning and relationship-building opportunities on offer.
|
A heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 Prefects who were named. They have had outstanding role models in the 2024 Prefects, whose examples of Marist servant leadership will inspire them as they take on this important role.
|

Give us a deep love of your Word that it may become for us, food for our heart.

Your loving presence in Mary and Marcellin made them open to You in the experiences of their lives.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Attendance Dues 2024 should now be fully paid.
I urgently remind you that as part of the enrolment agreement at Marcellin College, it is a legal requirement for whānau / parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues. These are collected by Marcellin College on behalf of the Proprietor and are essential for the operation of our integrated school.
|
All whānau must contribute regularly, even a small amount such as $20 per fortnight via automatic payment, to support the education of your tamariki. This commitment was agreed upon during your enrolment interview as part of the Attendance Dues Agreement. For whānau experiencing financial hardship, Financial Assistance is available to ensure this obligation can be met.
|
Failure to make regular payments will result in your tamariki being removed from the school roll as outlined in the Attendance Dues Agreement. Additionally, overdue accounts may be referred to a debt collection agency, which creates further stress for whānau. To avoid this, please reach out to Tiffany Wood, Executive Officer, or Maria Prescott, Tumuaki, as soon as possible to arrange a payment support plan tailored to your situation.
|
We also have a voluntary contribution component that supports additional school resources. The 2025 school fee schedule will be available at the end of Term Four. Thank you for choosing to trust us with the care and education of your tamariki / children. We look forward to meeting you all at our New Whānau Information evening on Rāapa / Wednesday 27 Whiringaārangi / November. Here, you will learn what makes Marcellin College a Christ-centred, engaging, whānau-oriented school and meet the dedicated team of kaimahi/staff. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and hear the experiences of our ākonga / students.

Love of Work Week Service Projects
|
Over the next few weeks, students will be taking part in activities that align with our Catholic Social Teaching values, emphasizing the dignity of work and care for the vulnerable. These projects are an opportunity to give back, reflect on our shared responsibility for others, and demonstrate the transformative power of service.
|
|

Breakfast Club – Join Us!
|
Another wonderful initiative this term is the launch of our Breakfast Club, a space where students can start their day with a nourishing meal and enjoy fellowship with their peers thanks to Sanitarium. The club is already making a difference.
|

Celebrating Ākonga Success
|
|
|
Marcellin Spirit Awards
At Marcellin College we use the name ‘Marcellin Spirit’ for Positive Behaviour for Learning. Marcellin Spirit teaches positive behaviour for learning by teaching expectations to all ākonga. We do this via specific Marcellin Spirit lessons, as well as by rewarding expected behaviours. We link our expected behaviours to the Marist Pillars. Our free and frequent reward system is whānau points, which ākonga can track using the MyMahi platform.
Marcellin Spirit certificates are awarded to the ākonga with the most Whānau points each week of the term. Congratulations to the following recipients for Week 5 of Term 4:

|
Whānau of all Year 7 - 10 ākonga will receive a final, full report for 2024 via email on Rāmere / Friday 6 o Hakihea / December. This will be a summary of all learning and achievements for the year.

Year 7-10 Prize Giving
|
Prize Giving is at 10:30am on 6 Hakihea / December. Whānau of ākonga who are receiving awards, will be notified by the end of next week.
|

|
Digital Literacy and Numeracy Corequisite Results
|
Results from the Mahuru/September digital literacy corequisite assessments will be made available on 5 Hakihea/December. Ākonga will need to log into their NZQA account to view these results: NZQA - Ākonga Login Steps.

|

The TechArt Show
The TechArt Show held on the 23rd October was once again, a great success. As well as showcasing of Senior Art and Technology work, there was also some Year 9 and 10 work on display. Mr D’Souza’s Year 11 Hospitality class did an amazing job on the kai.

Marcellin Fun Week
Our Big Day Out events will take place in week 8 with activities at Jellicoe pools and Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill to attend a Stardome session. These also include engaging in various sporting activities.
|
To cover the costs of these outings, we are asking that all ākonga pay $12 to SSC by December 2nd.
|
|
We will be walking from Marcellin College at 9am to both locations and will be returning to school before the end-of-day bell at 3:15pm. Ākonga can come to school in mufti and will need to bring a packed morning tea, lunch and a water bottle. For the pools, proper swimwear such as togs, rash tops and shorts are required to swim on the day as t-shirts are not allowed in the pool.

Sports

|
|
That's a wrap on the 2024 competition season! We ended on a high note with our Junior Boys competing in the Auckland Volleyball Champs at Bruce Pullman Arena in Takanini. While Day 1 got off to a rough start with two losses, the team rallied after a motivational team talk from the coaches. This sparked a 4-game winning streak to close out the event. Our Marcellin Junior Girls were unable to attend the Auckland Champs but had an impressive regular season, finishing with only one loss out of nine matches—truly outstanding efforts!

We’re excited for the upcoming Middle School Sports Prize Giving, where we'll celebrate the achievements of our middle school athletes and recognize our Junior Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year.

Fill The Blues Bus – Let’s Help Families in Need This Christmas
This Christmas season, our kura/school is excited to get involved with the Fill The Blues Bus campaign, We’re helping to collect non-perishable food items to support families in need across our region.
|
Starting Monday, 4th November, we’ll be collecting non-perishable food at school right through until Wednesday, 4th December. All the food will be donated to some amazing charities, including The Village Community Trust, South Seas, and Whakaora Kai.
|
If you’re keen to help, please start gathering food items and bring them to school between 4th November and 4th December. Together, we can make a difference for families in need this Christmas.
