Youth March 2017

4 Jun 2017 13:00

The Youth Week March will take place on 4th June 2017 from 1pm to 3pm. We will be marching in Auckland from Britomart to Aotea Square.

This peaceful Youth March is being held to end all forms of violence and discrimination to mark Youth Week 2017. We are also hoping to raise awareness around the issues of violence and discrimination present in our society, so that we can actually make a change.

The theme for Youth Week 2017 is ‘Our voices count, count our voices’ and accordingly our march aims to celebrate youth voices to end discrimination in Aotearoa. Young people from different high schools across Auckland will be coming together to use their collective voices to draw attention to the violence and discrimination we see and face in our communities.

New Zealand has the highest rates of reported family violence as well as youth suicide in the OECD, gender equality is still not achieved, there is stereotyping of young people as troublesome, there is racism against migrants and Islamophobia against Muslims. We want to end violence and discrimination based on age, gender, ethnicity, religion, class, ability and sexual orientation. The march is calling everyone to action, asking people of all ages to join and support youth voices.
